Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you may know, goal setting conferences are scheduled for September 28th and 29th.
For students in Early Childhood 2 - Kindergarten, these conferences will involve the
parent(s) and teacher. During these conferences, parents and teachers will discuss your
childs learning. How he or she is adjusting socially and emotionally will also be
addressed.
As part of this process, the parents and the teacher will collaborate to establish and
identify your childs strengths and areas for improvement. This will lead to the setting of
new goals, with all determining how they can best support the achievement of these
goals. In preparation for this evening, please consider your childs learning and how they
are feeling. Use the My Child Reflection (other side of this page) to guide your
discussion and then fill out each box.
Please return the My Child Reflection sheet to your childs homeroom teacher by this
Friday, September 9th. This reflection will be discussed at the conference. Your childs
homeroom teacher will have filled out a similar reflection sheet. Collectively, you will
use these reflections as a starting point for discussion and to help generate goals for your
childs development.

Please note that the purpose of this conference is to help the teacher and the parent to
understand the child better. This process will help us to set goals that are meaningful,
relevant and appropriately challenging for your child. At this point in the year your
teacher will still be getting to know your child as a learner and as a person. Therefore, it
is important to understand that this conference is not intended to be a traditional
conference, whereby the teacher shares a variety of information and assessment data with
respects to the childs ability and/or progress.
Yours respectfully,

Justin Jarman
