The Study Suggestions:

- Applying similar studies to find out the learning difficulties for students from different
stages in different subjects.
- Applying studies used suggested programs to treat the mathematics learning difficulties
in different stages.
- Using the problem solving strategy for the treatment of learning difficulties for students
in different school subjects and in different levels.
- Searching for suitable teaching strategies in teaching mathematics.
- Implementing studies to clarify the effect of using problem solving strategy on teaching
mathematics.

Abstract
This study aimed at identifying the effect of problem solving strategy on the treatment of
mathematics learning difficulties for eighth graders. To achieve this study the researcher
used the analytical descriptive approach and the quasi experimental approach. The sample
of the study consisted of 631male and female students chosen randomly from the eighth
graders. from six governmental schools in Khan younis governorate in Palestine for
diagnosing the mathematics learning difficulties for eight graders. In addition to 139 male
and female students from eighth graders and they were also chosen randomly from two
schools. divided into two groups. experimental group ( 69 male and female students) and
control group (70 male and female students).
The study focused on unit seven in trigonometry from the school textbook for eighth
graders in the second term in the scholastic year 2010 2011.
To achieve the aims of the study the researcher used a diagnostic achievement test.
The researcher employed the following statistical treatments: means. standard deviation.
coefficient correlation. T test. Coder Richardson formula 21. Etta square and the effect size
d.
The study revealed the following results:
1- The trigonometry unit is the most difficult unit for the students from their teachers`
perspective.
2- All items of the diagnostic test in trigonometry unit are considered of learning
difficulties except one item.
3- There were statistically significant differences at ( 0.01) in the mean of the
experimental group marks who were taught by problem solving strategy and their counters
in the control group who were taught by the traditional method in the mathematics learning
difficulties post test for the experimental group students.
4-There were statistically significant differences at ( 0.01) in the mean of the
experimental male group marks who were taught by problem solving strategy and their
counters in the control male group who were taught by the traditional method in the
mathematics learning difficulties post test for the experimental group students.
5-There were statistically significant differences at ( 0.01) in the mean of the
experimental female group marks who were taught by problem solving strategy and their
counters in the control female group who were taught by the traditional method in the
mathematics learning difficulties post test for the experimental group students.
6-There were statistically significant differences at ( 0.01) in the mean of the
experimental male group marks who were taught by problem solving strategy and their
counters in the experimental female group who were taught by problem solving strategy in
the mathematics learning difficulties post test for the experimental male group students.
In the light of these findings. the researcher recommended:
- Much care should be given to learning difficulties for students and following suitable
strategies to overcome them.
- Clarifying the meaning of symbols and mathematical items in the trigonometry unit
accurately to understand and deal with them properly.
- The necessity of accepting individual differences during explaining the lessons.
- Minimizing the load of the teacher to him / her enough time to diagnose the learning
difficulties for eighth graders and then implementing modern strategies for treating these
difficulties.
- Students should learn and acquire the skills of problem solving strategy to achieve the
desired goals.
