‘A Matter of Politics By Caroline Batten Kerry vs. Bush. The biggest debate all over the ‘country right now, And we're all taking sides. Maybe we should try to be united, but for now, allow me to explain why Iam a devoted Democrat. First and foremost is Iraq. I don’t believe there was any real evidence that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, Iraq was just an item on Dick Cheney and Co.'s to-do list. If any of you watched the news before we invaded Iraq, you would have seen that the agents did not find a single trace of nuclear weaponry. But we went in anyway. Therefore, Bush has caused unneeded death and pain, and that, to my mind, is unforgivable. Reason Two: Osama bin Laden/Afghanistan, 9/11 was not Bush's fault, The way he handled it was. The hunt for bin Laden was, to put it nicely, embarrassing. Bush made a very big deal out of the whole thing with all the speeches and advertisements, and then, well, ‘oops, we can’t find him. It ruined our international reputation. Afghanistan was sort of a disaster. See explanation #1. More unneeded killing and suffering, At least this time we did free an oppressed country. Reason Three: The environment. Bush hasn’t really done much to improve our situation with the greenhouse effect, and I think he had a responsibility to do so. I'm not even going to get into the oil business. Well, yeah, I am. The Arctic reservation deal? Well, it’s a reservation, ‘The reserve is one of the only places where wild caribou ccan graze and mate and rear babies. You drill, you kil. And besides, a reservation is supposed to be a place where animals are SAFE from that stuff, The oil shortage is also partly because of Bush’s actions. Now, Bush fans, you may think I'm being a little harsh. This is just my opinion, and you are entitled to yours. You can write a rebuttal, whatever you feel like. But | just want to say that I think Bush has made a mess of the presidency- and this country Moths All Around By Derek Lee This year at CRCAP there is a larger population of moths. There are moths everywhere: behind the the Daily Double room and all around the walll ball court near the tennis court. T wonder where all the moths came from? Where is the Katherine Ernst Do you know the song I am talking about? The one with the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake? Oh yeah, that one. 1am going to give my interpretation of the only rap song that actually focuses and is relevant to the events in the world today, One interpretation: There is too much hate in this world, It is saying that there is only trauma and drama and no loving. It is asking you to find where the love is that we are so capable of sharing! And is anyone doing that? No. Interpretation #2: Politics. Dear god, politics. It is saying that there “is a war going on and the reason’s undercover.” We do not know what gave Bush the impression that there were weapons of mass destruction. All we know is that there were not any and that now we are killing innocent people and causing hate. These may not be your interpretations. By all means, if this insults you, you can write a rebuttal. All I know is that I think that song was aimed at insulting the president's job and misuse of the oval office. Before you write that rebuttal, saying whatever you want to say, ask yourself this: where IS the love? Exotic Pets By: Kelly Scrima I just found out more on exotic pets. You can now order hissing cockroaches, skunks, hedgehogs, and sugar gliders! Pretty weird huh?! For more information go to Google and search: Exotic Pets The Nature of a Fashion Trend, As Told by an Outsider by Caroline Batten A fashion trend is something we are probably all familiar with. A celebrity chooses to wear an article of clothing, a new style is marketed in an ad. The “in” crowd (or the fashion obsessed) pick up the idea, slowly. Then the “wanna-be’s” start wearing it, until so many people are following the trend that most people cave in and go with the flow. Then the next trend comes, and, one by one, the groups drop the old trend, until it’s become completely out of style. The “hot-to-not” cycle is the formula for most trends in this society. T- shirts with initials, definitions, and fake ads are “hot” right now, and they will probably be out of date fairly quickly. Maybe it’s in human nature to follow trends — it’s a way to feel secure and accepted. But human nature created the cycle, and now it's destroying it. An item becomes “hot,” but other fashion companies, afraid of losing business, denounce it. The item is “hot” and “not” at the same time. The basic craving for social security has tured into insecurity and dependence. In other words, the market is taking advantage of our minds. What a society! Well, that's only one point of view. I'm sure that all of you out there have your own ideas about fashion trends. They live in Prethy Pret, ey Belt Lay tau Aaron Derderian Ben Perelmuter Not your average Joes in Needham. Emma Halwitz Chloe’s Cholumn By Chloe Cole Today I heard on the news that men and women lie equal amounts in relationships. The difference is men lie to make them look better and women lie to make their partners feel better. This article is about something | guess boys think make them look better ~ it's not lying and girls sometimes lie about to make boys feel better. Hats. Mostly baseball caps, of course. I understand men have a need to fee! better about themselves and that fads can help because, as we all know, all of society is very pack-based. It’s instinct, am I right? Everyone has herd instinct, seriously. So men, like women, see a fad and want to follow it so they can fit in with the group, which always feels good. But, c’mon — hats? I don’t understand the point of hiding your hair underneath something. I know some show pride for sports teams and colleges, but can’t you just wear shirts for that sort of thing? To me, most of the time you don’t even know what hair color a guy has. My friend, Chris, has dirty blonde hair. I thought he had dark. brown hair until about two days before camp ended last year. That is scary. At least, it is to me. Guys should not hide their hair. They should let it flow free. Like Joshua Keehn, next time you see him, check out his hair. He really knows what it means to be a ‘man and let your hair flow.
