MEDICAL TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY : WHATS NEXT

_ Have the first blood test as ordered, usually the same day you visit the clinic the first
time

_ Fill the prescriptions as ordered by the physician

_ If breast-feeding then STOP for 72 hours

_ On day 3 7 after your visit take Misoprostol 4 tablets. This should be a day when you
can rest, and have another adult present.

_ Take the Misoprostol by inserting the tablets deep into you vagina or by holding the
tablets between the gum and the cheek of your mouth for 30 minutes (two tablets on
each side) before swallowing. Do not insert the tablets into your vagina if you are
bleeding as the medication may not absorb properly.

_ Make sure you have supplies on hand including: large sanitary pads (maxi), hot water
bottle, thermometer, over the counter pain medication and lots of fluids to drink. Wear
comfortable clothes.

_ Repeat the misoprostol dose in 24 hours

_ Have the second blood test on day 10 12 after your first clinic visit

_ Return to the clinic for follow-up two weeks after your initial visit.

_ When you return, be ready for a surgical procedure if the medical abortion has not
worked:
Do not eat for eight hours before your visit (no fluids for two hours before)
Plan not to drive for 24 hours after your visit. You cannot drive to or from the clinic
on that day.
