ED 269 Online Subject: Reading Title of Lesson: Eggs for Gram Grade Level/Group: one on one Purpose of Activity: Comprehension Student Objective: The student will be able to predict what characters will do based on the traits revealed by the writer. Learning Disability: The student has a visual processing disorder, and has problems with letters and words just like Jack in our case study Modification: How you will modify this lesson for a special needs student? I will modify the lesson for my student by working with her to understand the story and the characters in the story. Description of the Activity: 1.Preparation The way that I would prepare to work through the story is to go page by page with the student so that I can see what she is or is not picking up in the story. 2.Presentation I will present the topic by reading the story, and explaining the roles of the different characters in the book Eggs for Gram
3.Practice Reading different types of books, and asking specific
comprehension questions, so that the student will understand the questions that are being asked. 4.Student Evaluation The student will assess their own learning by how will they are reading the books presented, and by how much they are learning the material that is presented in the books. 5.Expansion At first the student will be given questions that they can easily pick out of the book such as what did Gram have for breakfast, and then has she progresses in her learning give her harder questions such as questions that make her think like what would you fix your Gram for breakfast, and how is it similar to what you read in the book. Materials and Time Needed: Self- Evaluation: The best way to evaluate the student is by seeing how much she is actually picking up from the story. If she is progressing smoothly moving on to harder books to read and comprehend. How did I do as the instructor in teaching the student how to read is she moving up the ladder to harder material or do I did to take a step back in my instructions and remodify the material, so that she fully understands the material that she is reading.
