Exercise 2: write 1-2 pages (250-550 words) on a picture from social media (you choose),
analyze it to figure out its purpose, using the rhetorical triangle

This image that I found on social media, pictures a person holding up a sign that says If
god hates gays why are we so cute, this saying is very popular due to its satirical nature. In the
mist of many gay pride parade, there is a group protesting against the LBGTQ community that
most commonly ties up their arguments to religious beliefs. Although, this picture has no logical
appeal it has a huge amount of emotional appeal and ethnical appeal. The sign is aimed at antiLBGTQ parties that refer to being gay as an unholy concept, and shunning them because its
against their religion. The sign mocks the views of these anti-LBGTQ parties with a
counterargument to their most famous argument its against the bible, with a satirical remark to
empower, fight against, and make us laugh. This is not only to make us laugh at the cute remark,
but to bring pride to the LBGTQ community and fire back towards the groups against them by
playing with their words. Along with the emotional appeal there is also an ethnical appeal that
laces the picture up as a whole, regarding the beliefs of many anti-LBGTQ groups use that being
gay is unholy the picture embarks that in that case why were they wired in that manner. This

picture uses the words that would be used to argue against the theme which is Gay Pride, to
enforce the rights and pride. As we can see from the surroundings and background of the picture,
it appears to be a rural area which is most commonly religious in most parts, so this could be
arguing that nowhere in the bible does it remark god being against the LBGT community as a
fellow religious individual.
