[Stefan joins the schools football team, much to the displeasure of Elenas ex-boyfriend Matt and his friend Tyler. At
the pep rally, Tyler punches Jeremy, Elenas brother. Stefan steps in and stops the fight. Afterward, Matt finds Stefan
outside the locker room and thanks him for helping Jeremy. Stefans brother Damon sees the whole thing. He talks to
Stefan as soon as Matt leaves.]

Damon: [Clapping] Isnt that nice? Stefan

joins a team, makes a friend. Its all so,
rah-rah, go team, yes!
Stefan: Not tonight. Im done with you.
[He turns to leave, only to find Damon
now standing in front of him.]
Damon: Nice trick with Elena. Let me
guess ... vervain in the necklace? I admit,
I was a bit surprised. Its been a while since
anyone could resist my compulsion.

Where did you get it?

Stefan: Does it matter? [He starts to walk
toward the football field.]
Damon: Guess I could just seduce her the
old-fashioned way. Or I could just ... eat
her.
Stefan: [He stops walking and turns back
to face his brother.] No. Youre not going
to hurt her, Damon.
Damon: No?

Stefan: Because deep down inside, there is

Damon: Whos pretending?

Damon: [To Stefan] If thats my humanity,
then whats this? [Damon kills Coach
Tanner.]
Stefan: No!
Damon: [He lets go of Tanners dead body,
blood dripping from his fangs, and turns to
Stefan.] Anyone, any time, any place.
