Writer's Craft 3.0 Great writers (like great hockey players, actors, and guitarist) all have one thing in common: They practice the necessary skills the correct way. The also make mistakes, receive feedback, and try again. There are 2 main goals for this writing task: a) Practice using meaningful skills (taught in class) using various writing forms. b) Improve your ability to communicate as clearly as possible without trying to achieve a specific grade. * Feedback (only) will be provided for these entries. Each week you will be provided with writing prompts. We will encourage you to use the instructed writing skills - from class lessons - within your work. As you repeat using the skills, you will gain confidence to apply them in more of your writing. Complete at least one prompt per week, but you can show initiative and do more. There will be a small amount of class time provided for the writing, but a majority of the writing must be completed at home. This tool will be used until Christmas. Expectations a) Complete and submit the required writing by Friday morning of each week (beginning of the school day). b) Write at least one well developed paragraph, 5-8 connected sentences, unless the writing requires a different form (e.g. step-by-step instructions). There will be times when you are required to write multiple paragraphs. c) Try your best to spell words correctly and present your writing neatly (typed is preferred). 4) Each entry needs a title (bold and larder than the rest of the text); include the date on the line after the title. e) Keep all of your Writer's Craft work in your duotang. For Parents Please take a look at your child’s writing on a weekly basis. Sample Entry My Happy Place September 16,2016 There are a number of places that I really enjoy in the world, but one in particular stands out. Let me describe it for you. As you come up too this place you immediately feel a sense of calm. However, the time of day is very important - early morning. It is at that time when the air quietly whispers in your ear and smell of the water catches your attention. Once you see the glassy surface and the mist hovering just above it, there are fewer brilliant settings on the planet. In the background, tree cover the edge of the water and birds can be seen resting in their limbs. Sometimes you can be lucky enough to see a blue heron searching for his morning meal along the shallow edge of the shoreline. But it is what | like to do here that makes it my favourite place: fishing, There is nothing like the exhilaration of a largemouth bass coming to the surface of the water to attack a top-water lure. The explosion from the aggressive fish makes my heart jump out of my chest. The fight that follows leaves lasting memories of the calm of the setting and excitement of what lies beneath the lake.
