Ecological foot print is an indicator of amount of space on earth that individual
uses in order to survive using existing technology India ecological footprint is 1.2 per capita (Rank 127) but Indias total demand on bio capacity is exceeded only by that of the United States and China. When I compare my own ecological footprint, currently I have almost equal to national average ecological footprint. By 2021 I will have approx. 50% more ecological footprint than national average if national average is expected to be at 1.4. I also noticed that my increase in ecological footprint was more on the account of mobility which in turn depended on travel by Car and its fuel consumption per kilometer. I think projected 2.1 ecological footprint is too big, I need to change my life style if I assume world will not be able to evolve and make better use of resources i.e. increase productivity. Per Capita ecological foot print seems to have direct link with increase in per capita income, as one earns more (I can link it with my life style too), his or her lifestyle improves and he or she consumes more resources putting more pressure on nature. Indias race to become an economic power has propelled it to No. 3 in the list of top carbon polluters. Indias greenhouse gas emissions will keep rising as it tries to lift millions out of poverty and connect nearly half a billion people to electricity grids. Indian government and Corporate bodies track ecological foot print due to regulatory requirements and international agreements also there is growing awareness that if we go on exploiting natural resources ate current rate, we might not be able to leave anything for future generations.
