Aseptic Technique
Certain procedures are carried out during the preparation of a sterile product in order to
minimize contamination.
Student note:
Nosocomial simply means "taking place in a hospital". Nosocomial infection is "Hospital
Borne" infection.
Contamination by Personnel
The person compounding is the most frequent cause of contamination, followed by
contaminated equipment and contaminated raw material.
Proper attitudes and strict adherence to aseptic techniques is essential to reducing the
likelihood of contamination.
Environment Contamination
Aseptic technique requires control of the environment.
