In Baguio City, according to Reynaldo Buenaventura, a blind person working as a

massage therapist said that one of the best way to identify paper bills is by folding
techniques. Although they are used to practicing the technique, they are still struggling
because of the dependency to a sighted individual. Chances of cheating and receiving
counterfeits were also encountered by blind people. He also stated that his friends
encountered an app for android smartphones which detects paper bills but limits them
because of internet connection requirement.
Several project studies have been conducted in Saint Louis University by fifth
year Electronics Engineering students which also involved money identification system
for the blind. The latest installation of the system was done in August 2014 which
entitled Portable Money Identification System for the Blind using Color Detection. The
project involved a sensor that served as a color detector and a microcontroller which
processed the data that will be sent by a speaker. The system will be detecting the
conceal value of the money located at the upper left and lower right portion of the bill at
its face side. The project was limited to incapability of detecting counterfeit money and
the money that will be detected is assumed authentic.
