Effect on households

The variation of wind integration to the grid affects the required power required from the grid
to fulfil household demand. In the figure below, Case 1 shows the household demand from
the grid when there is no wind integration, and Case 4 when the wind integration is 150% of
the household load (Case 2 50% of load, Case 3 100% of load). As the integration of wind
energy increases, real power delivered to households is supplied more and more by the
wind energy, and real power requirement from the grid decreases. However, reactive power
required for the household load from the grid increases, due to the wind turbines requiring
reactive power for operation.
