Biology assignment Chapter 1 .

Domain names in the taxonomic hierarchy of life Archaea, Bacteria, Eukarya.

Organelles, are membrane bound compartments with eukaryotic cells that carry out
specialized functions, ex chloroplasts.
Producer- autotroph that obtains energy and nutrients from a non living source.
Organisms- bacterical cell, fungus, plant

Organism- bacteria cell

Community- the plants animals and microorganisms that inhabit a place
Molecule- dna
Ecosystem- organisms, water, air and nutrients in a desert area
Organsystem heart and blood vessels
Atom- carbon

Asexual reproduction

Offspring are virtually identical to each other

Genetic info comes from only one parent

Sexual reproduction

Offsprings are produced that contain a combo of genetic material from 2

parents.

Population- members of the same species living together in the same place at the
same time

Organisms that make their own food by obtaining energy and nutrients from non
living sources are called producters!!
Taxonomy naming things
Natural selection- mechanism of evolution in which certain individuals from a
population exhibit enhanced reproduction success based on inherited
characteristics
Limitations to scientific inquiry- misinterpretations of results, biases of scientists
Variables- the responds that an inverstigator measures and the treatment than an
investigator manipulates.
New complex functions and characteristics that arise when the smaller components
of an organism interact are called EMERGENT PROPERTIES

Eukarya- domain is characterized by having unicellular & multicellular organisms

whose cell contain nucleus.
Method of obtaining energy
Producer- autotroph that otains energy and nurtients from nonliving sources
Consumer-heterotroph that obtains evergy and nutrients by eating other
organisms
Decomposer- heterotroph that obtains energy and nutrients from wastes and
dead organisms.
Eukaryotic groups or kingdom with its appropriate match
Plantae- multicellular; almost all are autotrophic organisms
Animalia- Heterotroph; obtains food by indigestion
Fungi- heterotrophs; obtain food by external digestion
Protista- unicellular and multicellular organisms; autotrophic and
heterotrophic organisms.
Cell- basic unit of life and consists of a membrane enclosing water, dna and other
chemicals.
