ADVANCED
ELECTRONICS
Technologically advanced, the Monster offers a complete electronic riding control package. Ducati Riding Modes
allow users to select one of three different ride modes
- Sport, Touring or Urban to adapt the bike to specific
riding conditions. Each mode acts on the Ride-by-Wire
system to set the type of power delivery, maximum engine power and the intervention levels for the Bosch 9MP
ABS and Ducati Traction Control (DTC). These last two
devices constitute the Ducati Safety Pack, as standard
on all versions. Monster 821 riders can also count on an
essential yet cutting-edge LCD instrument panel for total
at-a-glance control. The 1200 models, instead, feature a
sophisticated TFT colour dashboard that combines userfriendliness with an info array that changes according to
the selected Riding Mode. On the Monster 1200 R the
display also indicates the currently selected gear.
11
MADE-TO-MEASURE ERGONOMICS
Tailor-made comfort that ensures total control and freedom of
movement: an idea at the very core of Monster versatility. The
seat can be adjusted to two different positions - available on
the Monster 1200 R - to boost riding comfort. By modifying the
ergonomic triangle of seat, footpegs and handlebars to suit the
users build and/or riding style, a confident position - and, there-
fore, maximum control - is assured. Confidence is enhanced further by the wide, carefully positioned handlebars, allowing full
enjoyment of the thrills that only a Monster can provide. Further
attentiveness to comfort is also seen in the meticulous design
of the passenger zone, characterised by a comfortable seat and
smoothly ergonomic footpegs and grab handles.
13
Ensuring maximum rider enjoyment is imperative for Ducati, and the way
to do it is to make everything easier. Constant research in the field of
twin-cylinder engines ensures the Monster is packed with engineering
excellence and top-quality components. The penchant for perfection of
the engines in the Monster range mean significant simplification of main-

MONSTER 821:
MONSTER ESSENCE
PRECISION
AND AGILITY
Reactive. Fluid. Determined. Thanks to the smooth synergy of compact wheelbase, meticulously designed suspension and light 10-spoke wheels, the Monster 821 handles
like a dream. The rear 180/60 - ZR17 tyre heightens agility
and gives complete power control on every corner. With
320 mm discs and monobloc calipers with Bosch ABS,
the Brembo braking system ensures safe stopping whatever the road conditions.

EXHILARATING
POWER
The innate power of the 821 cc Testastretta 11 engine
is immediately evident in its deep growl. This potent
twin-cylinder 4-valve engine delivers an unmistakeable
112 hp and 65.9 lb-ft of torque. Uniquely feisty, decisively powerful, the Monster 821 guarantees thrills with

THE MONSTER 1200 R
BORN TO RACE
The beating heart of the Monster 1200 R is the R version of the new Testastretta 11 DS engine. Improvements have optimised intake, combustion
and exhaust so that this power unit now provides 160 hp and a torque of
97 lb-ft. It is also Euro 4 compliant. There are also new elliptical throttle bodies (56 mm diameter equivalent), cylinder heads with wider air ducts, an
increased compression ratio of 13:1 and an exhaust system with large (58
mm cross-section) pipes that feed into a sporty dual silencer. All this gives
the Monster 1200 R unparalleled punch. This means maximum fun on the
track, where the bikes awesome acceleration can be unleashed,. Yet it also
means retaining the fluidity typical of this latest generation of Testastretta
11 DS engines, with 75% of torque already available at 3500 rpm.

R DESIGN
37
ULTRA-PERFORMANCE,
ULTRA-CONTROL
The natural, never-tiring, riding position, the full yet linear power delivery from the R engine, balanced suspension with
outstanding feel and the superbike-equivalent braking power
ensure the awesome power of the Monster 1200 R is kept under complete control at all times, both on the track and on the
road: all the rider has to do is have the time of his life. One of
the most advanced electronics packages ever seen lets riders
hone the personality of the bike to suit their individual riding
styles and specific ride conditions. Thanks to the three Riding
Modes - which act on the Ride-by-Wire system - riders can set
the desired power delivery and engine power settings. Just
one press of a button on the handlebar controls and the Monster 1200 R goes from the 160 hp sports-style power delivery
of Sport mode to the full yet progressive power settings of
Touring mode or the 100 hp Urban mode. Each Riding Mode
is also programmed to act on the parameters of the Ducati
Safety Pack, which consists of Bosch 9MP ABS, adjustable to
three different levels, and eight-level Ducati Traction Control.
The application of Riding Modes also allows the user to vary
both the graphics and the type of information on the colour
TFT display. On the Monster 1200 R the TFT dashboard also
indicates the currently selected gear.
