Everyday Math
The Everyday Mathematics curriculum
emphasizes:
Use of concrete, real-life examples that are meaningful
and memorable as an introduction to key mathematical
concepts.
Repeated exposures to mathematical concepts and
skills to develop childrens ability to recall knowledge from
long-term memory.
Everyday Math
The Everyday Mathematics curriculum
emphasizes:
Frequent practice of basic computation skills to build
mastery of procedures and quick recall of facts, often
through games and verbal exercises.
Use of multiple methods and problem-solving
strategies to foster true proficiency and accommodate
different learning styles.
The Daily 5
The Daily Five is a literacy structure
that allows for differentiation in the
classroom and provides consistency.
It is an integrated literacy instruction
and classroom management system
for use in reading and writing
workshops

Consists of 5 Tasks
1. Read to Self
2. Read to Someone
3. Work on Writing
4. Listen to Reading
5. Word Work
The Daily 5
Relies on the teaching of
independence
Manages the entire literacy block
Allows for three to five focused
lessons and more intentional teaching.
Provides students with substantial time
to read and write.
Allows for integration of reading and
writing.
The Daily 5
Builds stamina to ensure longer
periods of time students successfully
read and write.
Develops student behaviors that
culminate in highly engaged learners.
Teaches students to understand and
monitor their literacy goals.
Language Goals
In order to meet the grade 1 reading
standard, students must be reading
(and understanding) level J texts on
Kids A-Z by the end of the year
Read at least one book every night
This should take about 20 minutes.
Set goals and work towards achieving
them.
