Peer Mentoring Narrative Report

We had five sessions of the Peer Mentoring over the duration of the
second half of the semester. The Peer Mentoring was conducted in various
locations, preferably in well-lit, open spaces and silent environments places
highly conducive for learning.
Time was a difficult issue, considering the fact that some of us have
different schedules; however, we still managed to agree on a particular time
and place. The sessions were held after classes or on free periods.
During the session, the mentor gets to select which lessons are to be
covered during the tutorial. This decision happens to be decided on
unanimously; several factors were taken into account, such as the mentees
strengths and weaknesses. The duration of the session runs between 1 to 3
hours.
The session starts by having a brief review on the formulas, and then
the group proceeds to answer sample problems to practice the application.
The mentor focused more on the computation aspect of the lessons; the
mentees were free to express their opinions and to pose questions regarding
the subject being discussed. They were free to point out any miscalculations
and mistakes in the discussion of the topics.
Sometimes, the group is divided into two, with the other half being led
by the assistant mentor, while the mentor facilitates the latter. The assistant
mentor was also responsible for filling in whenever the mentor displays
inadequacy in explaining a certain topic. Everyone was responsible for
studying the objective types. This was mostly done via self-studying as this is
more effective in dealing with concepts.
The mentees expressed enthusiasm during the sessions by being
present most of the time and by frequently asking questions. They were easy

to assist and they responded positively. In retrospect, there were no serious

problems encountered during the mentoring.
