Overview of Grade 7 ELA with Mr.

MacMillan
Welcome!
Students are expected to read aloud with the class, acquire new vocabulary,
demonstrate comprehension, build grammar skills and write essays through
a variety of research based methods and best-teaching practices. The
curriculum is guided by Brocktons ELA Common Unit Frames and aligned
with the Common Core as well as IB Standards.
The Plouffe Academy follows the educational philosophy of the International
Baccalaureate (IB) that works to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional
and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.
The school follows a trimester schedule.
Student work will be evaluated using the IB rubrics that include four
criterion: Analysing, Organizing, Producing Text and Using Language. The
rubrics may be found on our class website.
Grades are based on: Attendance, Classwork/Participation,
Quizzes, Tests, Essays, Projects and Homework.
A weekly homework packet will be assigned every Monday and
is due Friday. Additional homework may be given throughout
the week. The purpose of homework is for students to build
grammar skills as well as practice and improve reading,
comprehension and writing abilities.
