RUAO Feature Descriptions and Instructions 2.11 2444 214A 2114.2 DNos100341 RAN191 : High Speed Cell_FACH Description of RAN1913: High Speed Cell_FACH Introduction to the feature With this feature, the HSPA is used in Cell FACH state. With High Speed Cell FACH more users can be supported in Cell_FACH state and smocth and faster data transmis- ‘sion can be provided for users not requiring large data volumes. Services for sending frequent but small packets can be handled more efficiently. The reason behind introducing the specified enhancements in Cell FACH states are the quick HSPA access (improved setup times) and improving performance of the legacy R99 RACHIFACH channels, Terminal |OT ready, not E2E tested, No commercial availabilty, Benefits End user benefits Fast and smooth data transmission is provided. End-user experience is improved with better Cell FACH state response times and higher bit rates in Cell_ ACH state, Operator benefits With High Speed Coll_FACH, more users can be supported in Cell_FACH state. For ‘supporting UEs, lower setup time is expected (setup time here refers to the time differ- ‘ence between user action and the moment when first user data bits arrive at the UE), It can be achieved if the starting RRC state is either Cell_ PCH or Cell FACH, In addition to improving setup times, this feature significantly reduces signaling load not only between BTS and RNC but also between RNC and the UE, Frequent RRC states changes during connection time are reduced. High BTS and RNC resource efficiency can be achieved when users are served in Cell_FACH state, for example, by reduced dedicated channel setups for “always on” users with low traffic requirements. The best gains are obtained when UE applications introduce frequent but small amounts of data, Benefits only apply to supporting UEs. This feature is applicable for DH card only. Functional description In current implementation of Cell_FACH, the FACH scheduling in the downlink is per- formed in the RNC MAC layer and further mapped to the SCCPCH at the BTS. The FACH carries the following logical channels for the UEs in the Cell FACH state: + Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH), which includes the RRC: System Information Change Indications, + Dedicated Control Channel (CCH) for UEs having the RRC connection estab- lished + Dedicated Traffic Channel (OTCH), which allows data transmission forthe RRC con- nected UEs. + Common Control Channel (CCCH), which is used by UEs for establishing the RRC connection and when UEs access a new celllURA area due to cell/URA reselection. The PRACH in the uplink comprises a preamble part and a message part. The AICH is a downlink physical channel, which is used for acknowledging the preambles transmit- ted by the UEs in the PRACH state. The preamble acknowledgements are transmitted when the signature included in the preamble can be correctly detected. If no AICH is detected, the UE increases the preamble power. The preamble is ratransmitted in the next available access slot with increased transmission power. RAN1913: High Speed Cell_F ACH feature utilizes the 3GPP enhanced Cell FACH state for the downlink (Rel7) and uplink (Rel8), In the downlink, the data that has been mapped to FACH transport channel in previous releases now can be mapped to the HS-DSCH transport channel (see Figure 4 Logical channels mapping in downlink on transport and physical channels in Cell FACH state (HS Cell_FACH)). H-RNTIis UE identifier needed for HS-DSCH usage, High Speed Cell_FACH introduces ‘common H-RNTI that is used to address multiple UES in the Cell FACH state when UE does not have a valid, dedicated H-RNTI. The UE starts monitoring the HS-SCCH and when it detects an H-RNTI, it decodes the data from the HS-DSCH. When the common H-RNTIis used, the UTRAN specific UE temporary identifier (U-RNTI) is included in MAC header for addressing the UE, When the UE has a valid dedicated H-RNTI, itis. used also in the Cell FACH state. Common H-RNTI is only used for a short transitional period during which a dedicated H-RNTI has to be assigned to the UE. In the uplink direction, the E-DCH can be used in the Cell FACH and idle states, and mapping of logical channels is performed as shown in Figure 5 Logical channels mapping in uplink on transport and physical channels in Cell FACH state (HS Cell_FACH). At the physical layer, tne preamble transmission with power ramping is similar to the Re!99 RACH, but the acquisition indication and assignment of resources is done for E-DCH. In the uplink, there are common E-DCH resources defined, that is, the UE can access the uplink at any time. A concurrent access to the common E-DCH resource may take place during the collision detection phase of the BTS. cog peck orc tosis RACH och Troaport (HSUPA Rel8) Pryce PRACH E-0PDCH Figure § Logical channels mapping in uplink on transport and physical channels in Cell FACH state (HS Cell_ FACH) DNos100341 Id:o900d80580a1d096 m7 Confidential RUAO Feature Descriptions and Instructions 178 Preamble tanenieson | @ a @ i ®, EOP, —— Pract oPcct DL. When the UL resources have been assigned, inner loop er Ic:0900d80580a1d09e DNos100341 Confidential RUAO Feature Descriptions and Instructions Power control is started and the UE is able to send ACK/NACK and Cl for the HS- DSCH. If High Speed Cell_FACH is not used in the uplink (for Rel7 or older UE), the Re!99 RACH is used. There is no dedicated uplink feedback signaling channel and HSDPA HARQ cannot be used. Instead, the MAC layer can be configured to execute fixed downlink retransmissions. High Speed Cell_FACH allows fast service for a large: number of users at the same time. For bursty data like SMSs and push-email, the response times allow a Cell FACH state data transfer without frequent switching to the CelLDCH state. Also, the Dual lub is sup- ported where some traffic classes are configured to use ATM and some are configured to use IP as the transport media Two transport bearers are used both in the downlink (2 x HS-DSCH) and uplink (2x E- DCH). One transport bearer carries signaling data (logical channels CCCH, DCCH and BCCH in DL, CCCH and DCCH in UL) and has the highest priority. Second one is used to carry user data (logical channel DTCH) and has the same priorty as PS NRT HSPA traffic.
