Modeling an Adiabatic Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor

An adiabatic CSTR is to be assumed to be perfectly mixed; initially its at temperature 300


K. Reactant A is fed to reactor from two different inlets with constant flow rates so the
volume in the reactor tank is thus kept constant. 100 kmol/m3 of Reactant A is initially in the
tank. Product B is collected at the bottom. The reaction is a single first-order exothermic
and irreversible:

As the temperature in the tank can vary significantly during operation of the reactor, it is
also desirable to ensure that this process variable is kept within reasonable limits. A
schematic diagram of the vessel is shown below.
