Question 2
a) Write the estimated regression equation and give an interpretation for the coefficients
obtained.

0 = 509.113

1 = 56.153

= 509.113 + 56.153X

Interpretation :
When the relative pollution potential of sulfur dioxide (SO2) increases by one unit, the
mortality rate increases by 56.153.

b) Construct the ANOVA table and test the significance of the model obtained in a) using
5% level of significance.

Since F > 4.96 ,

is rejected . There is a significance linear relationship between

relative pollution of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and mortality rate.

c) Find

R2 and interpret your answer.

r2 =

SSR
SSTO

425412.66
779866.85

= 0.5455

Interpretation :
54.55 % of the variation in mortality rate is explained by the relative pollution potential
of sulfur dioxide (SO2). The balance 45.45 % is explained by other factors.
