Description of strategy

German Renewable Energy

Sources Act
-Launched in 2000 by the
ministry of the Environment.
The strategy was designed to
encourage cost reductions
based on improved energy
efficiency from economies of
scale over time.

Government energy policy

Launched in 2000, the
government and the German
nuclear power industry agreed
to phase out all nuclear power
plants by 2021,

Reduce its greenhouse gas

emissions
Launched in 1997. It keeps
tabs on Germany's CO2
emissions.

Germany
Done by:

Success
Due to the use of
renewable energies,
145 million tonnes of
CO2 emissions were
avoided during 2012.
[5]
The renewable
energy industry
employed 377,000
people in 2012, up
from 30,000 people in
1998.
The government do a
voting of closing down
the nuclear power
plant with a result of
513 Yes, 79 No and 8
Empty. The seven
oldest reactors were
permanently closed
after the Fukushima
accident
It has managed to
reduce emissions by
22.4 percent,
according to
theSddeutsche
Zeitung

Limitation
Building a safe and clean
power supply incurs costs,
but the net benefit of the
EEG exceeds the costs of
initial investment by 3.2
billion. It uses lots of
money.

As Germany is an integral
part of the EU's internal
electricity market,
Germany will continue to
consume foreign nuclear
electricity even after 2022.

the study warns that

emissions could tick
upwards as a result of
high energy prices for
much of 2008, a situation
that led many power
plants to increase reliance
on coal-generated power.
- The near future will
also see a number
of atomic energy
facilities shut down
in Germany as part
of the country's turn
away from nuclear
power, a
development that is
likely to increase
the use of
emissions-intensive
energy sources
such as coal.
