The more reflective you are, the more effective you
are. Hall and Simeral
Dear First Grade Families,
It was great seeing so many of you on Tuesday, and
discussing the learning your child will do this year.
One topic of discussion was reflecting on your childs
digital portfolio posts on the website with them.
Student reflection fosters a disposition toward
discovery and connection-making. Students learn that
they must do the detective work required to assess and
respond to each new possible situation--including
analyzing new learning, determining the relevance of
their prior knowledge, and modifying their learning
strategies as needed. Metacognition (thinking about
their thinking) is thus an essential habit of mind for
improving our learning skills and thinking. Please use
the comments section on each portfolio piece to scribe
a sentence or two about your childs reflection. Guiding
questions were posted on the blog last week if
necessary.
