Q: Fresh water has always been a limited resource in some parts of the

world. Today, however, growing worldwide demand has made this a

global problem.
What are the causes of the increased demand and what measure could
governments and individuals take to respond to this problem?

A: Fresh water is one of the most crucial factors to ensure peoples quality of life
and safety. However the increasing demand and limited fresh water resources is
now raised as a global issue. In this essay, the causes of growing demand and
acts can be taken by governments and individuals to destress the water need will
be discussed.
Firstly, the natural disaster rate in recent years has dramatically accelerated over
the decades. After a big earthquake or a flooding, the fresh water needs would
increase exponentially for surviving and recovering processes in affected area.
Secondly, the world population growth triggers agricultural and industrial
expansion and development. Both of these sectors require huge amount of fresh
water in the corresponding procedures to do so.
Meanwhile, there are lot of means can be applied to respond to such a situation.
Governments can fund universities and institutes to promote desalination
research so that the fresh water resource may be expanded; by rising water rate,
it would discourage water waste in industrial and residential water usage; setting
regulations and fines for excessive water use can also limit the amount of
wasteful water to an extent. Furthermore, individuals should raise the awareness
to save fresh water. Parents and teachers should also educate and remind their
kids and student in limited water supply; using bucket water instead of running
water during cleaning session, car washing would also save the water
dramatically.
To sum up, high fresh water demand is severe issue across the globe. It is
everyones responsibility to save water and give a sustainable fresh water
environment for our next generation. Governments should also take initiative
actions to save the water waste and protect the fresh water resources.
