Standards Alignment: Lessons are aligned to appropriate standards/competencies? Lesson objectives align with the 4Ms: Manageable: Is the objective of size and scope that can be taught in a single lesson? Measurable: Is the objective written so success can be measured by the end of the class period? Made First: Is the objective made to guide activities and not vice versa? Most Important: Does the objective focus on what is most important on the path to college and nothing else? Do Now: a quick (3-5 min) Do now activity is planned to either preview the days lesson or review a recent lesson. Is it standards based? Do now does not require teacher explanation Hook/Anticipatory Set: There is a short, engaging introduction to excite students about learning beyond telling students what they are going to learn. I do: Includes both explicit instruction and modeling Teaching point communication Step by step explicit instruction on objective Modeling Examples/Non-examples What are students doing (note-taking, graphic organizer etc.) Visual display (elmo, projector, anchor chart) We do: Guided Practice Teacher and student practice skill together until they are ready for independent practice. Teacher checks for understanding. Guided practice matches modeling from I Do You do: Students working independently practicing for mastery (note: this is not the exit slip) Assessment Assessment aligns with the lesson objective Accommodations & Modifications Lesson is appropriately differentiated to meet individual student needs? Lesson accommodations align to the lesson objectives?
