There are thousands of young people who use drugs, others who will start; and they'll come from every section of the city. Each year hundreds will drop out of school. Juvenile delinquency and crime know no race nor social class. Scores of other prob- lems plague the youth of the Omaha metropolitan area Arline Boyd... mother and community builder They need help growing into men and women, and Arline Boyd, a Wireman in Dept. 432, is there helping She realizes that these young Americans need a guide through the maze that life builds for them to follow. She knows that a man does not become a man just by growing up, going to school, fighting wars, marrying and raising a family. It takes more; it takes the care and concern of a mother who is willing to help design the life experiences that mold, shape and develop a child __—Atling is one of cur community builders. She helps boys grow into men and girls into women. She builds tomorrows’ communities from the nucleus of her family. ‘A mother of three, she divides her time between raising her family and boosting organizations that will help shape their future. She actively supports the Cub Scouts, Brownies, 4-H, the Youth Fellowship of the Faith Presbyterian Church and the Papillion High Schoo! Athletic Boosters. She is the past president of the Papillion Band Parents, an organization that raised money to send the band to the Hemisfair in Texas. Working fulltime so her children can attend college is another area of dedication to her family and commit- ment to youth, “Children,” she said, “appreciate mothers who work, so they will be able to attend college What is her reward for the hours of dedicated ser- vice: “Just the appreciation expressed by my children and the satisfaction of seeing them grow into men and women, Arline, employed by Western Electric now for seven and one-half years, is dedicated to her family with the kind of dedication that is common among mothers, but too often goes unheralded. The Omaha Works salutes Arline and the hundreds of other Western Electric mothers who are our community builders. ..-helps shape tomorrow 3 weeks ahead of schedule 520 PBX orders filled to FAA and Pentagon by Mike Rissien Nine Omaha Works depart ments banded together and pro- duced seventeen 520 PBX frames in record time in April Answering requests from the Federal Aviation Administra- tion, the Pentagon and the Grand Forks, North Dakota police department, the Omaha Works cut two and three weeks off normal production schedules in completing the three jobs. Since the Omaha Works is the only supplier in the country of these emergency reporting systems. Personnel in Departments 411, 412, 421, 422, 428, 431, 434, Almost 2,000 of the 520 PBX frames have been produced since 1959, when the first 38 frames were manufactured and shipped to Hawaii in support of a Presidential visit. smployees who produced the 520 PBX trames are (back row) Ron Yearsley and Paul Guhl: front row) Pat Kratl Virginia Hawkins, Larry Doeden and Robert Cottman. Westerner printed on paper made of paper The issue of The Westerner you are now reading is printed on paper made out of paper. A short time ago it may have been letters, catalogs, or perhaps ‘other newspapers, but whatever it was, yesterday's history has been washed out and a new 100 per cent recycled stock remained to be reused. Printing The Westerner on recycled paper is part of the Omaha Works’ contribution to improving the environment. Normally 16 trees are cut and processed to make one ton of new paper. So with nearly 500 pounds of paper used in each issue of The Westerner, four trees are saved per issue. 263 and 113 joined forces to pro- duce the six frames for the U. S. Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Tex., six frames for the Federal Aviation Administration in Jew Jersey, and five frames for the Grand Forks police. John Bourke, Assistant Mana- ger 410, said that as a result of this effort, the FAA units were shipped two and a halt weeks ahead of normal schedule, the Navy's frames three and a half weeks early, and the frames for Grand Forks were three weeks ahead of schedule.
