education, using textual evidence from the speeches/essays given to you in class.

prompt, and a succinct thesis statement that clearly demonstrates what the purpose of
education is (at least 4-5 sentences)
Have at least three body paragraphs that support your thesis of what the purpose of
education is (no fewer than 6 sentences each)
o Each body paragraph should follow the CEE format with a topic sentence as your
claim (that coincides with your thesis), evidence, and explanations as to how your
evidence supports what the purpose of education is
o You must utilize at least three of the five speeches/essays I gave you in class to
support your claim
o Each quote should be introduced by naming the speech or essay and the author
(no in-text citations are necessary for this essay)
EX: Martin Luther King Jr.s essay, The Purpose of Education,
states
