Forming & training Egyptian Chinese teachers

Present situation and future prospects


Chinese department in the faculty of Al-Alson at Ain-shams University as a model

This paper is divided into three parts. The first part discusses the most ancient institution
for Chinese language teaching in Egypt, which is the Chinese department of the faculty of
Al-Alson at Ain-shams University; whose history exceeds more than 50 years. All over his
history and up till now, this department has been offering the Egyptian society well-trained
translators from Chinese language. Moreover, this department is considered as the biggest
Chinese departments in Egypt regarding to the number of his staff members. Therefore, its seen
as an excellent model for studying foreigner Chinese teachers training and forming. The second
part of this paper defines the Chinese department staff members number and distribution
according to their scientific specialization and their titles, it although introduces the training
courses which the staff members has attended in both Egypt and China. The third part treats, from
the author personal point of view, the staff members abilities of Chinese teaching in his
department, and analyses, from a critical perspective, the training courses which is offered for
non spoken Chinese teaching and for courses design. Finally, this paper reports on some
proposals which aim to improve Chinese teaching in Egypt to reach a higher level in order to help
Egypt towards a more broader prospect for Chinese culture dissemination.
