Who were the Romans?


The Roman Empire covered most of Europe, North Africa & the Middle East.
A few years before the birth of Jesus Christ the Romans came to Britain.
In around 25 BC there were approx. 56.8 million Romans.
The Romans spoke a form or Latin called Vulgar Latin. It was different from
the usual Latin that is spoken today.
The currency they used was called Solidus.

What made them successful?


The Romans built a network of towns, cities and waterways which made them
very powerful.
Their armies usually came from Italy, which had a larger population than any
other region in Europe (Other than Greece).
Their engineering and technology was also known as the best in the world during
that time.

Why the Romans collapsed


The overspending, used too many resources
The reliance on slaves
The weakening of the Roman Legions
The plague
Overexpansion, too much manpower used

What Romans did in their spare time


Romans fought with other gladiators and animals, in front of big crowds in
gigantic arenas.
Roman Emperors would sometimes pay for the shows at the theater.
Romans didnt spend all their time fighting-they were amazing architects.

Facts about The Romans


Rich Romans liked to eat exotic food like stork, roast parrot and even
flamingoes.
In the Roman times they would also watch chariot racing.
The Roman army walked up to 40 km per day.
