The PCT International Application was published inthe English language BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION AND. PRIOR ART. ‘The invention relates to a gearbox arrangement which ‘comprises frst gearbox with an adjoining range gearbox. "The first gearbox is with advantage a dual-lutch gearbon. AA dual-lutch gearbox comprises @ fist set of components substantially corresponding to the components in a first ‘mechanical gearbox, anda second st of components subsian- tially corresponding o the components in second mechani- ‘cal gearbox. The first set of components cover all the odd ‘numbered gears in the dual-luteh gearbox and the second set ‘ofeompanentscoverall the even-numbered gears. Switching between the two sets of components involves using clutch ‘devices which make it possible to engage and disengage the respective sets of components. The fact thatthe two sets of ‘components are used alternately makes it possible t effet tepped upward and downward gear changes in 3 dual-cltch pearbox without torque interrupt. ‘Maay heavy vehicles ollen have a fist gearbox connected by a first motion-transmitting connection toa so-called range pearbox. A range gearhox usually comprises a planetary gear ‘whi ean provide each primary gear inthe first gearbox with respective high and low transmission rates. To operate the range gearbox, driver ean move an operating means, which ‘may be fistened around a gear lever in the driving eab, to @ Position which indicates a desired gear positon ofthe range tearbox. The driver moving the operating means to a desired Position usually results in activation ofan operating eylinder Which s controlled by compressedairand which moves aring _geirofthe range gearbox between the respectivehigh and low Transmission ratio positions. Alterativey, the gear change ‘ay be indicated by an automatic system, As the ring gear is ‘connected inthe lo transmission ratio position toa station ary clutch cone and inthe high transmission ratio position to ‘clutch cone on a rotating shafl, there fis ¢0 Be a tongue ‘netrapt during a gear change process inthe range gearbox in ‘onder to synchronise te speed of the ring gear before itean be ‘moved between the two positions SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION ‘The object of the present invention ito propose a gearbox. arrangement which comprises a first gearbox with an adjoin- ing range gearbox whereby gear changes can be effected ‘without torque interrupt in at least the range gearbox. “This object is achieved withthe gearbox ofthe kind dis closed inthis application. Changing gear betwen alow trans mmission ratio anda high transmission ratio ina range gearbox rexiires the provision ofa torque nterapt inthe range gear box. Acconling to the present invention, the frst gearbox ‘comprises a second motion-transmitting connection which ‘can transmit motion from atleast one primary gearin the firs 0 o 2 gearbox tthe output shaft without using the range pearbox. The primary gearin the fist gearbox can ths provide an exis ‘ransmission ratio and the gearbox arrangement am ext gece, ‘The extra gear i so dimensioned that it has higher trans mission ratio than the gear provided by the primary gear with 4 low transmission ratio inthe range gearbox, and a lwwer ‘transmission eatio than the primary geat with high tansmis- sion rita inthe ange gearbox, The extra gear thus becomes an intermediate gear during stepped upsifts and downshift. Such an intermediate gear obviates the need forthe range gearbox 1 switeh directly between a low transmission ratio fad high transmission ratio, Whea the extra gear is oct vated, there is no foad upon the range gearbox. In this ‘unloaded state, theelutch element oftherange gearbox can be ‘moved toa desired position. When agear change isto be made {rom this extra pear to a gear with high or low transmission ratio inthe range gearbox, the clutch element can be moved beforehand to the desired position, The gear change process ‘nthe range gearbox can thus take place without torgue inter ript, The frst gearbox usually comprises several primary ‘gens. Creating an extra gear for one or more of the primary ears in the first gearbox and giving them a suitable transai Sion ratio makes it posible to prevents low transmission tio inthe range pearbox from being adjacent toa gear with ahigh transmission ratio in the range gearbox during stepped Upshift or downshift “According to an embodiment ofthe present invention, the first gearbox comprises several gears each connectable 10 respective low and high transmission ratios ofthe range gear box, and the gears are so dimensioned that all gears whieh fave alow transmission ratio in the range gearbox have a lower transmission ratio than all gears which have a high transmission ratio in the mange gearbox. In this case, gear changing in the range gearbox is only necessary between the highest gear whicl has alow transmission rato in the ange sdearbox and the lowest gear which has a high tansmission ‘tio inthe range gearbox. In this case, creating an extra gear ‘whieh hasa transmission ratio between said gears issufiient to prevent a gear witha low transmission ratio in the range szearbox from being directly adjacent to a gear witha high transmission ratio inthe rage gearbox. It is possible, how ever, that one oF more gears which have a low transmission ‘iio in the range gearbox may’ have a higher transmission ratio than one oF niore gears which have high wansmission ratio in the range gearbox. In this ase, tis necessary to create several extra intermediate gears to prevent a gear With low ‘ransmission ratio in the range gearbox fom being adjacent to gear with a high transmission ratio inthe range gearbox, “According toa preferred embodiment ofthe present inven- ‘ion, the first gearbox comprises several primary gears which fare connectable tothe extra motion-transmiting connection so that several extra gears are created, comprising at least wo extra geurs so dimensioned that they havea transmission rio betweena gear which has low transmission aio in therange gearhox anda gear Which has igh transmission ratio in the range gearbox. Several extra intermediate gears are ths cre ated to separate a gear with alow transmission ratio from a ‘lear with 3 high transmission rato inthe range gearbox. This results in ther time for gear change preparation inthe range gearbox during stepped gear change. ‘According ta preferred embodiient ofthe present inven tion, the ringe gearbox comprises a planetary gear with a cluteh element which is movable berween alow transmission ‘iio postion and a high transmission ratio postion. Such a clutch element may be a ring gear. Inthe low transmission ‘iio position the ring gear is usta coupled witha stationary leh cone, and in the high transmission ratio position the US 9,151,361 B2 3 ing pea is usually coupled with elute cone on artting shail. For the ring gear (o move between the two clutch positon, tha to beroating athe same speed asthe respee- tvectutch cones. Sich synchronising proces forthe speed ‘ofthe rng gear equi the provision ofa torque interop. the range gearbox. According lo the present invention, no torqueinttrpt need be provided inthe gearbox arrangement ‘when an extra ger is used as an intermetiate gear while the Fag gear is moved between the two clutch positions, The ‘lfc element need not bea ring goa but may be welch ‘element with substantially with any desired but Tuntional ‘confiration “Accordigg toa prefered embodiment ofthe present inen- sion, the exta motion-ransmiting connection comprises an ‘lenient whieh extends through the range gearbox 10 the ‘output shat. The range gearbox usually omprises plan- ‘etary gear comprising asin whee, planet wheels ad a planet ‘whl carer planst wheel caries wally provided with apertures Soch an element may therefore extend though at leas one ofthe caries apertures and trnsmit forge othe ‘ouput shaft. Alternatively the exta moton-kansmiting cone nection may have an element which sun extat beside the planetary gear andthe range yestbox (othe output sha “According to prefered embodiment ofthe presen ince tion, the fist gearbox is dlcltch gearbox. Dul-lutch seurbones comprise substantially two gearboxes connected in parallel which te sed altrately ding stepped upshit ‘downs. Altemating between the two parallel earboxes makes possible a gear change process without torque inter ruiptA gearbox aangement which comprises a dl-luteh geurbox with an adjoining range gearbox according wo the Present invention may ths be used for Neppd ups and ‘owshift entirely without org interrupt The allah peurbox may comprise a fist input salt engageable by means of a fist clutch deveo, and a second inpot shat ‘eogngcible by means of second clutch device. Such teh ‘devices and input satis make it possible to engage and die ‘engage quickly the wo gearbones connected i parle “According tan embssimeat othe invention the gearbox rangement is 30 configured that a steppes peur change between two adjcent gears alvays involves the clutch devices electing sllemste engagement of sai ip sal ‘Thisprovides assurance tha every te of he gear change can take place without torgue terri The dele gearbox ‘comprises with advantages fit counterhal second cone tersaf, af least one primary gear which connects the ist input shaft the fst counters, t east one primary scar which connects the fist input shaft © the second eoubte= shall atleast one primary gear which connects the seeond ‘nut shal the first counters, and at Test one primary {Ber which connscts the socond input shaft to the second ‘ountersaft, The number of primary ears wllinthiscasebe Test fone According © another embodiment of the invention, the dual-lutch gearbox comprises 4 mains which is ome neste the range arbor at least one wear which connects the ist counter to the msishaft and t lest one asa which conneets the second countersalt 10 the mains Sid ears make it possible for the fst eountersalt andthe Second counters o be altemately connected tothe main- sha and consequently to the ange gearbox [BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS. The frst colntershaf , comprises two tertiary spur gears [,, H by which te frst countershal , ean be cennected to the mainshalt 36. The second countershafts: comprises likewise two tertiary spur gears RH, 1. by whic the second countershaf sean be connected to the mainshaft 36. lth synchronising clutch 37 is adapted to connecting the first countershaft s, to the mainshafl 36 by means of tertiary spur gear L,. The fifth synchroaising clutch 37 is altematively adapted io connecting the second countershafts. {o the mainshaft 36 by means of tertiary spur pear R. Spur Tertiary spur gear effets rotation of the mainshaft 36 in an ‘opposite direction and is therefore used for reverse wears. A sixth synchronising clutch 38 is adapted to connecting the second! countershalt sto the mainshaft 36 by means of ter ‘iar spur gear L,H.. The tertiary spur gear transmission L 1 has here two designations, sine its sed bath when the range geatbox 22 has a high transmission ratio and alow tansmission ratio. A seveath synchronising clutch 39 is adapted to connecting the first cowntershats, to the main- shaft 36 by means of tertiary spur gear Hy. Therefore, a first motion-ransmiting eonnee- tionbetween neat the primary spur gearwheels ononeot the input shafts a, and the range gearbox 22 includes one of the primary spur gearwhoels on one the countershattss, $2 ‘operating together with the one of the primary spur gear- wheels on one of the input shafts ,, a, one of the counter- shafts s;. one of the tertiary spur gearwhiels on one ofthe ‘countershafss,,;, one of the tertiary spur gearwheels onthe ‘mainshall operating ogether wit the one of the tertiary’ spur ‘gcansheels on one ofthe countershafts 5,8, and the main- ‘shaft 36. The range gearbox 22 comprises «planetary gear 42 ‘comprising in a conventional way a sun wheel, a number of planet whoels anda planet whee career. Changing gear inthe range gearbox 22 involves elutch element inthe form of @ Fing gear 43 being moved between position, which results jn @ low transmission ratio in the ringe gearbox 22 and @ Position Hy which results in a high transmission rato in the range gearbox 22. When the ring gear 43 is moved othe low transmission ratio position Lin FIG. 1, itis connected to & SMationary clutch cone. In a position of connection to the ationary clutch cone, the ing gear 43 is motionless. In this ‘eae the motion of the mainshatt 36 is transmitted 10 the ‘ourpat shaft 41 va the sun wheel, the planet wheels and the planet whee! carrie. The rotation speed ofthe mainshatt 36 is here transmitted tothe ontpat shat 1 with » downshift. The range gearbox 22 provides in this ease low transmission ratio, When the ring gear 4¥ is moved tthe high transmission ratio position Hy in FIG. 1 it connects a clutch eone of the ‘ainshalt 36 to the planet wheels, In this case the motion of the maiasbalt 36 is tansmited to the output shalt AL via the . This is ‘done while gear 4 i still engaged. The torque-transmitting path for gear 4 uses the socond inp shaft an, whereas the ‘orque-transmiting path for gear Susesthefrstinput shaft, US 9,151,361 B2 7 Here ain ts likewise possible to use the clutch Jeviews 24, 26 0 fect the change between pears 4 und 5. gear change ‘without torque interrupt is tus Tikewise achieved. Thereafter 8 stepped upshift from gear § to gear 8 ean take place in @ similar way tothe upsift rom gear 1 to gear 4 excep that in the gear rangeS-# he second countrshafts isuseinstad of the fist countershats, Tn the gear inge 1-8, the ring gear 43 is all the time in the Jow transmission ratio postion Li the range geatbox 22 ‘When gear changes take place within the gear range 1-8, the eaox arrangement works like a dual-eluteh gearbox with ‘ight gears, so gear changes within the gear range 18 can be ‘effected without torque interrupt, Problems arise when the ‘eight gears of the dusl-cluteh pearbox 21 are to be given a high transmission rato inthe range gearbox 22. The ring gear 48 then has to be moved to the high transmission ratio posi tion inthe range gearbox 22. Thishasto he precede by the Fing gear 43 being accelerated from being motionless to @ speed at which it an be connected to the clutch cone of the inshall 36, To sWoid a orgue interupt when changing Irom ‘gear 8 to gear 9, the synchronising eich 39 is moved tothe Position in which it connects the first countershats, 10 the ‘Ext shaft 40/by means of secondary spur gear H. The ist ‘counters, is thus connected to the output shaft 41 via secondary spur gear H, the extra shaf 40 andthe connecting ‘element 4. This can bé done when gear 8 is engaged, gear 8 using the second countershaft snd the mainshaft 36. the same me, the synchronising clutch 29 is moved toa positon in which it connects the first countershaf s, tothe fist input shaft a, by means of primary spur gear. Whea this has been fchieved, the clutch devices 24,26 ean he wsed to effect the ‘change between gears Band, The changebetween gear and gear 9 can this likewise effected without tongue intern Further stepped upshifis within the gear range 9-12 ae ellected by primary spur gears I-IV altemately connecting the first eountershaft , to te first input shaft, and the second input shaft ‘When gent changes are effected within the generange9-12, therange gearbox 22 isnot used and there is therefore no load upon the ring gear 43. There is therefore plenty of time to rove the ring gear 43 to the high transmission mio position it the ange gearbox 22. When a change takes place from ear? to gear 13, the ring pear 43 has therefore already been ‘moved tothe high transmission ratio positon Hy. The sya- ‘chronising clutch 38 has also been moved to the postion ia ‘which it connects the second countershaft , tothe mainsha 36 by means of teniary spur gear H. When this has been ‘achieved, the change to gear 13 is effected by the elureh devices 24, 26 disengaging the second input shaft a and ‘engaging the first input shaft a. Thus @ gear change without torgue intemrupt ca likewise be effected between pears 12 and 13. Any further upward change within the gear range 413-20 is effected with the ring pear 48 in the high transmis sion ratio position yin the range gearbox 22. When gear ‘changes take place with this gear range 13-20, the pearbox. frangement works like dual-chuteh gearbox with eight tears, so gear changes within the pear range 13-20 can ike- ‘wisebo effected without torqueinterupt. may be noredhere that when the highest nears 17-20 are used, Which involves ‘engagement ofspurgearH,,thesecondcountershafls, ean be
