1. It is able to store large amount of genetic information
The very complex and highly organized structure of DNA enables it to store large amount of biological information in the sequential base pairing along a nucleic acid chain packed in each human chromosome. 2. It is replicated and transmitted accurately. During interphase of cell division, it replicates precisely by the action of DNA polymerase enzymes. The highly specific enzymes copy the sequences from nucleic acid templates with an error rate of less than 1 in 100 million nucleotides. 3. It is physically and chemically stable. The complementary bases are stabilized by hydrogen bonds and the basestacking interaction of the nucleotides in the center of the helix, thus providing protection from spontaneously breaking apart. 4. It has the flexibility to respond to external signals. DNA enables the cell to alter the patterns of gene expression in response to extracellular cues without compromising other cellular processes.
5. It allows variation and alteration to generate genetic diversity.
It has the ability to generate new alleles to provide diversity or mutations, while preserving parent line.
