2 Problem Statement
The issues of shortage in rice production,increasing in rice consumption and
lower self-sufficient level of rice in Malaysia becomes major problem in rice
industry in Malaysia. According to (Fatimah et al., 2010) the total consumption
recorded of rice among Malaysian showing increased number in tonnes from 2.7
million metric tonnes in 1985 to 4 million metric tonnes in 2009. This is due to
increasing population in Malaysia and the estimate number of population in
Malaysia is expected to reach for about 29.8 million in 2015 compared 28.92
million in 2012 (Malaysia,2010).
