Computer Project Report II

The Muskat technique is used to predict future reservoir's behavior taking into
consideration that there is no initial gas cap, no water influx, nor water production, i.e.
m=0 , =0 , and

We=0 . Based on this method, a program capable to calculate

the Gas-Oil ratio, the Oil Saturation as well as the recovery factor was created on Excel.
In addition, in order to demonstrate how these values relate each other, a plot is created
right after the calculations are done.
The initial PVT data used to calculate all others parameters are given and
displayed on sheet 1. The first parameter calculated was the oil formation volume factor
through the following equation:
dbo
=(boibo) /( PiPi+1 )
dP
To find bo

at a given pressure:

bo
Eq. 2
The next step was to find RS :

boi

dbo
dP

* ( PiPi+1

Eq. 1

dRs
=(Rs iRs)/( PiPi +1)
dP

Finding

Rs

Eq. 3

at a given pressure:

Rs

Rsi

dRs
dP

* ( PiPi+1

Eq. 4
Finding bg

gradient:
dbg
=(bgibg) /( PiPi+1 )
dP

To find Bg

Eq. 5

at a given pressure:

bg

= bgi

dbg
dP

* ( PiPi+1

Eq. 6
To find the oil saturation we need to calculate X(P), Y(P), and Z(P). These
parameters were calculated using the following equations:
X (P)

bobg

dRs
dP

Eq. 7

Y ( P) =

Eq. 8

Eq. 9
And;
d o

o

Eq.

Finding

g

at a given pressure:

Eq. 11

Gathering these values we can calculate

So , So

and the Recovery

Factor:
First of all we need do set up the

kg
ko

calculation. Considering the initial data

given and through linear regression we can find all others of

but when

So

kg
ko

when So > 0.65,

< 0.65 we use the following equation:

log

Therefore:

kg
=0.901So+ 4.17842
ko

Eq.12

So=

( kgko )Y ( P ) +( 1SoSwc )Z ( P ) ]P

SoX ( P )+ So

kg
o
ko
1+
g

Eq. 13

And;

So=Soi So

Eq.14

And finally, the Recovery Factor is calculated by:

RF=1

So
bo
(1Swc)
bo i

Eq. 15
After getting all these values we can plot Gas-Oil ratio and the Pressure decline
in function of the Recovery Factor.
