The Cold War (Remediation)
The Cold War was the period of time from 1945 (end of WW2) to 1991 (offical
fall of the Soviet Union) in which there existed numerous conflicts between the
democratic United States and its allies and the communist Soviet Union and its allies.
SU and the US were actually allies during WW2 in an enemy of
my enemy deal, and the alliance quickly deteriorated after the war .
US offered help to all countries across the world through the
Truman Doctrine and the Marshal Plan.
Marshall Plan was designed to help countries in
Eastern Europe rebuild after the war and build good relationships with
America, thus preventing communism from spreading to them.
Truman Doctrine set up the containment protocol
in which Americas goal was to contain communism, thus halting its
spread and keeping it contained.
Throughout the Cold War, there was never any direct confrontation
between the USA and the SU. However, most of the violence in the war was
through fighting in satellite countries, countries that were being politically and
financially influenced through democracy and the US or communism and the SU.
Many of the battles and wars in satellite countries
have been large scale wars for the United States. These wars/conflicts and
counties include:

The Vietnam War between the SU
support North Vietnam and the US supported South Vietnam.
The Korean War between the
SU/Chinese supported North Korea and the US/UN supported
South Korea.
Cuban Missile Crisis with a SU
supported Cuba against the USA.
While having a global effect, the Cold War also affected America
on the homefront.
Under Eisenhower, the IHS (Interstate Highway
State) was born, allowing for easier transport of materials throughout the
country in additonal to easier travel.
Baby boom and economic growth brought new
population and prosperity to the country.
As a result of American fear of communist and
communism, Senator Joseph McCarthy began accusing many government
officials, businessmen, and Hollywood stars of being communist or having
ties to the communist party.
