Matthew 5:1-12 (Beatitudes)

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.4 Blessed are those who
mourn, for they will be comforted.5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

BLESSED FOREVER

It has been months since I have been separated from my family and loved ones. At first, I had a
hard time dealing with the people in my new place; after all, adjusting is difficult. As a result, I
was always homesick. I longed for the kind of affection I experienced in my comfort zone. I
cried a lot because I missed everything back home, but like always, the Lord never failed to
comfort me.
In todays Gospel, the Lord reminds us, Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be
comforted. Every time we experience sadness, the Lord is there to be with us. His healing
comfort is present when we are sick or in pain. He guides us, keeping us away from harm. He
never fails to listen when we pray, especially when we feel blue and have no one to talk to.
The beatitude always starts with blessed. In this simple way, God tells us that He
showers us with grace and goodness in spite of any burdensome circumstance we might be
facing. As we endure, God assures us that just like the saints, He, too, will guide and lead us to
heaven.

Guide question: How does the Lord make me feel blessed during my time of sadness and
morning?
