Sarrailles Super-Fun

POETRY PROJECT
For this, the best project in the universe, your task is:
1. Find a poem that you GENUINELY ENJOY.
Go online to https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-andpoets/poems and find a poem that you connect with emotionally.
Choose something you understand and can relate to.
In order to find a poem, browse by subject, poet, title, or any of
the other criteria used by the website.
Once you have chosen, copy and paste the text of your poem to
a word document (or Google document).
2. Analyze that poem using THE SKILLS YOU HAVE LEARNED IN CLASS.
You must identify examples of the literary devices we have
learned about:
a) Atmosphere
b) Repetitive devices (alliteration, refrain, assonance,
consonance, etc.)
c) Figurative language (metaphor, simile, idiom, allusion,
symbolism, etc.)
d) Meter and rhyme scheme (to the extent that they are in your
poem)

You must also write out a one-paragraph description of the

overall meaning of your poem, using some of the examples you
have identified to explain how you reached that conclusion. This
paragraph will be on the second page of the document
containing the text of your poem.

3. Explain exactly what you like about your chosen poem.

Give an overall explanation of what drew you to this poem. Why
do you connect to this subject matter or to the mood created by
the author? How is the subject of the poem relatable to you? This
will also be on the page following your poem.
OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT: 10% (max)

Do a DRAMATIC READING of your poem for the class! You must follow
the sacred rules of poetry reading (Read the sentences, not the
lines! Read slowly and confidently. Project your voice to the back of the
room. Enunciate.) and give it an honest effort to convey the deeper
meaning of the poem through your reading. I will give you as much
extra credit as you deserve, not to exceed 10% of the total points
possible.
