Introduction

Assessment is an important component in the learning process and promotes learning


by motivating students to improve their performance and academic
achievement.Through assessment,a teacher is able to know the performance of
students in the test and could compare the performance of the students in different
tests.Knowing the performance of the students and the level of difficulty of the test
can help a teacher to plan his teaching strategy to improve the students
performance.The level of difficulty of the test can also be adjusted according to the
ability of the students.The mean marks and the standard deviation are usually used to
show the performance of the students and level of difficulty of the
test.Besides,composite index can also be used to show the studentsperformance and
the level of difficulty of the test.
Aim
The aim of this project is to apply the concept of statistics in knowing the students
performance in a test and the difficulty level of the test.
Objectives
a) Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the mark of the students.
b) Calculate the composite index of the marks.
c) Use the mean mark,standard deviation and composite index to compare the
students performance and the difficulty level of different tests.
