Dropbox (Turnitin) version. In cases where the hard copy and the
Dropbox (Turnitin) copy differs, only the Dropbox (Turnitin)
submission will be graded.
Please be reminded that failure to cite sources appropriately is
plagiarism which constitutes academic dishonesty and will result in a F

Task

Format

In the introduction, you may include a brief overview of the main points from both sources. Your comparative analysis must not simply be a summaryit
should be a comparison of the texts to evaluate the writers arguments. The analysis must be articulated in a clear thesis, and developed coherently,
backed up with evidence from the source texts. You can choose to have a point-by-point or text-by-text discussion.

Assignments: Assignment 1: Comparative Analysis

Write a comparative analysis based on two sources to explore the issue of whether food adventuring is a form of cultural appropriation.

Based on your analysis, bearing in mind the writers purposes and intended audiences, decide whether:
one argument is stronger than the other;
both arguments are equally strong; or
both arguments are equally weak.

You are expected to state the specific reasons for your choice based on
the strength of the authors claims
the quality and types of evidence the author(s) choose(s) to support his/her claims.

For this assignment, you do not need to bring in other sources to support your discussion. You should only use examples from both articles to justify your
choice.

ASSIGNMENT 2A: DISCUSSION OF TRENDS

Overview
Before you start on this assignment, choose a company to represent. Your role for this assignment is as a young business professional at a company (chosen
by you) and your manager has approached you to ask for a proposal on fresh, workable ideas to fuel the companys growth strategy.

To respond to your managers request, you will first conduct research on current trends in the industry (Assignment 2A) and then recommend a growth
strategy for the company (Assignment 2B).
In Assignment 1, you learned the analytical skill of comparing two sources. In Assignment 2A, you will expand on this skill and apply it to extract emerging
trends from your chosen sources based on your chosen industry and company (refer to page 10). But before you begin your assignment, you will first
need to 1. Pick a company 2. Identify the primary industry the company is in 3. Pick a sub-topic from the given list (see page 9). Then, proceed to identify
current trends in the industry in relation to your chosen topic. To identify these trends, you will investigate the current industry landscape (consider
relevant political, economic, social, psychological, behavioural, and technological factors) via secondary research (scholarly articles, business reports and
databases). You are expected to present two trends to your manager by synthesising information from 3 to 4 sources.

These trends may provide opportunities for the company to capitalise on, or reveal threats that could harm the companys bottom line (economic, social or
environmental). Therefore, this industry overview will be helpful to the company as it decides on the next course of action.
Make sure that the trends you picked for discussion are valid, accurate and relevant to the industry based on your chosen company. Note that in reviewing
the trends, you should be aware of your audiences needs and expectations before writing the discussion of trends.

Voluntourism

Medical/Wellness Tourism

Sports Tourism

Cultural Tourism

Assignments: Assignment 2A: Discussion of Trends

Do note that while the trends do not need to specifically address the chosen topic for Assignment 2A, the recommendation that you make in Assignment 2B
needs to fall within one of these topic areas.

The Discussion of Trends should be between 800 and 1000

Assignments that exceed the recommended word limit may be

the Grading Rubric.

Deadline

The soft copy of the assignment should be submitted via eLearn by

Friday, 30 Sept. 2016, at 5 p.m. (refer to Assignment Overview for
details on deadline).

Your instructor will inform you whether a hard copy of the assignment

You should prepare a company profile and hand it in as a hard copy to your instructor together with a cover page. The company profile is ungraded and is
not part of the word count for the assignment.

You will be expected to expand on Assignment 2A to write a Business Proposal in Assignment 2B. The Discussion of Trends you have written as Assignment
2A will provide the rationale for and evidence in support of the recommendation you will make in Assignment 2B.

Suggested Tools

Synthesis matrix
Company profile (vision, mission, values)

It is recommended that you use 3 to 4 sources for your Discussion of Trends. You will use your library skills to find sources for the assignment. Do note
that going beyond the recommended number of sources will affect the quality of the synthesis and you may get penalty for inadequate competencies in the
categories of Reasoning (40%) and/or Use of Sources (10%) [See pages 11-12 and 15].

Context
The manager/decision-maker of your chosen company is pleased with the analysis you did in Assignment 2A. Based on the discussion of trends that are
emerging in the chosen industry, your next assignment is to write a business proposal of approximately 1000-1200 words to the manager/decision-maker.

Task
In Assignment 2A, you have discussed trends that are relevant to the industry/company. Now, in Assignment 2B, you will identify the trend that is most
relevant to your companys growth strategy, make a recommendation you would like the company to adopt and include a short and long term action plan to
carry out the recommendation.

Format

Introduction

Appendix (optional)

Sources
In writing the report, it is recommended that you use 6 to 8 sources to develop logical arguments to persuade the management to adopt your
recommendation and implement the action plan. In crafting your arguments, you might need to analyse the benefits, risks and feasibility of the business
proposal. The sources may include scholarly articles, business reports, databases, and case studies.
