Maritime museum

Adelaide
Location
Visiting the Maritime Museum in Adelaide will
extend your knowledge of Australias oceans,
rivers and the ships that floated on it.
It takes just a short sail or drive to get to the
museum, located on Lipson St, Port Adelaide. The
perfect location that gives you that nautical feel.

History
The Museum was built from 1854 to 1863 and was
primarily built to be a warehouse but was changed
into an auction mart in 1970. In 1972 it finally
became the museum and has been that way ever
since.

Exhibits
There are many exhibits but the main ones are the
1950s first class cabin, the dolphin exhibit and the
Active II sail ship that you can actually climb on.
There is something for everyone in the family. The
Active II Ketch replica represents what the ship
would look like. It shows how small the ships
would be and also lets you go in and experience
the life styles passengers and crew members
would go through. To add on to that there is a
cabin exhibit which allows you to experience the
bed rooms in different years and types of boats
which many people had to travel in for long periods
of time. One cabin is from the 1800s, another is
from the 1920s and the last from the 1950s. Have
fun trying to find the differences!!

Other information
The Museum is open every day and is open from
10.00am to 5.00 pm. There are many ways you can
be transported there like by train, taxi or by your
own car and are parks all along the street.

So drop the anchor at the Maritime Museum!
