Paul Revere

Paul Revere was one of many famous American Folk

Heros. This one is especially important to our past history, for

without him we might not have won the American Revolution

and the world might not be the same as it is today.
Paul Revere was born January 1st, 1735 in Boston,
Massachusetts and died May 10th, 1818 in Boston,
Massachusetts as well. Before Paul was involved in the
American Revolution he was actually a Silversmith. Once he
became involved in the American Revolution he was a part of
the Boston Tea Party. He was also famous for being one of the
three men that was known for alerting the Lexington Minutemen
about the approach of the British Soldiers on April 18th, 1775.
The night that they warned Lexington it was also the night the
British troops set out on there ill-fated march to destroy
colonial guns and ammunition at Lexington and Concord.
What most people dont know about this story of American
history is that there were actually two ways that the British

soldiers could get to Lexington and Concord, they could go the

long way which was by land, but they could also come by
crossing the Charles River and then Concord. History tells us
that they came by boat but the colonist didnt realize this until
April 18th, 1775. Paul Revere (once he figured out they were
coming by water) used a coded system, he would light either one
or two lanterns that would shine in Bostons Old North
Church. One lantern meant that they came by land and two
lanterns meant that they were coming by boat. So thats exactly
what Paul did, he went to the North Church and lit two lanterns.
Paul Revere then went to a boat he had on the River and his
friends had a very fast horse ready for him when he arrived on
Charlestown shore. He set off to warn Americans with the
British several miles behind him. Church bells rang and alarms
sounded as he warned Americans. He continued to bang on

doors and call to people the famous words; The British are
coming! The British are coming!
On his midnight ride the British eventually captured him
but he escaped, lucky with his life. His dedication to the cause
of Freedom was an important factor in the Revolutionary War.
Paul was also know for, along with the Sons of Liberty, the
The Boston Tea Party.
Paul was not only a messenger but a well-known skilled
craftsmen. He created a special punchbowl dedicated to the
ninety-two. The ninety-two were 92 representatives in the
Massachusetts legislature who voted against the British
governor.
