2. A pulley fixed to the ceiling of a lift carries a thread whose ends are attached
to the masses of 4kg and 2kg. The lift starts going down with on acceleration
of a0 = 4 m/s2 relative to ground. Calculate
(a) The acceleration of the load 4kg relative to the ground and relative to
lift.
(b) The force exerted by the pulley on the ceiling of the lift
(Thread and pulley are massless, g=10 m/s2)
3. A small disc of mass m slides down a smooth hill of height h
without initial velocity and gets onto a planck of mass M lying
on the horizontal plane at the base of the hill, as shown in the
figure. Due to friction between the disc and the plank, the disc
slows down and ultimately, both move together.
(a) Find the common velocity of the disc and the planck.
(b) Find the work done by the friction
(c) Find the distance moved by the disc with respect to the
planck before they start moving together.
