Artemis

The Temple of Artemis (Temple of Diana) is located in

Ephesus in Turkey. Artemis is the Greek God of
hunting and childbirth. The Temple of Artemis was
built by a female tribe called the Amazons. The
Amazons had a big battle against Dionysus (The
Greek God of wine). Since the Amazons were losing,
they fled to the temple and Artemis told Dionysus to
leave the Amazons and change course. So the temple
ended up being a place to go if you needed
protection.
It was completely rebuilt three times before its
eventual destruction in 401 AD. The first time it was
destroyed due to a flood. The Second time was
because of arson. Herostratus burned it down in order
to become famous. This backfired because anyone
who spoke his name was then sentenced to death.
