Variation in Coin Samples
Objectives
Prepare 10 coin
samples, handle
with forceps,
contain in watch
glass
Obtain mass of
each sample
using analytical
balance
Record data
Waste Disposal
N/A
Calculations
1) Divide the samples into the following data sets:
a. Samples 1 to 6:
Data set 1
b. Samples 1 to 10: Data set 2
2) Perform the Grubbs test (at 95% confidence level) for the highest and lowest
values of data sets 1 and 2.
3) Calculate the following statistical parameters for data sets 1 and 2:
a. Mean
b. Standard deviation
c. Relative standard deviation (in ppt)
d. Spread
e. Relative spread
f. Confidence limits (95% confidence level)
g. Pooled standard deviation (for the data of the whole class)
