Products from DSE providing readings of the generator current require current transformers to measure this current. Selection and
connection of the CTs is detailed in the document Using CTs with DSE products (DSE Part number 056-005).
Many DSE products use the CT measurements to provide protection against generator overcurrent. These are :
Current instrumentation
(Applicable to DSE7000, DSE5500, DSE5300, DSE5200, DSE6110, DSE6120, DSE710, DSE720 and DSE560 modules.)
The CTs are used to display current. DSE8000, DSE7000, DSE5500, DSE5300, DSE5200 series additionally use the
current measurement to show VA, kW and pf (cos).
As soon as the current is detected as being above the trip point the module will generate an alarm condition.
When the current is detected as being above the trip point, a timer begins. If the current remains above the trip point for the period
of the timer, the overcurrent alarm is generated.
