Canada, is characterized by very coarse and diverse, occupying most of the


northern portion of the North American continent, precisely 41 percent,

an immense territory between the Pacific to the west and the Atlantic Ocean,

percentage of bilingual people is 38 percent and 33 percent respectively

As in the United States and Western Europe, most Canadian artists are "selfsufficient", although only a small minority get all their income from their artistic
work. There are, however, several publicly funded programs, at all levels of
Canadian government, created to support the arts and provide financial
assistance to artists of all kinds. Governor General Awards are given annually to
actors, writers, musicians and other artists. There is also a federal National Art
Gallery, and almost all provinces have an important art gallery publicly funded,
usually located in the provincial capital.
Canadian literature
In the last 30 years, the number of Canadian writers with published works has
increased dramatically, and as a cultural aspect, the Canadian community buy
and read more books than most industrialized nations. However, it still has not
been given any special preference to Canadian literature.

Canada has a large number of artists working in different artistic disciplines.
Almost all small cities (and all major cities) have many art galleries where
citizens can peruse and purchase works of art, many galleries are funded by
taxpayers. There are several cooperatives of artists in cities across the country,
offering artistic and financial support to its members. There is no single model
for artistic presentation up across the country.
The Performing Arts
There are hundreds of theaters and performing arts centers scattered in

have companies community theater. There are also several specialized
companies and events such as the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and the
Shaw Festival. These two festivals, based in Ontario and held every year,

around the world.

When you think about Canadian cuisine, no doubt you think of items such as
Canadian bacon and maple syrup, and although these foods are considered

gastronomy.
Canadians are very proud of their culinary traditions, traditions full of

Canadian culture: Festivals and Celebrations
The people of Canada enjoy a number of festivals and important celebrations.
Some are exclusively Canadian, while others have their roots in the French and
English traditions. Some of its most important holidays and celebrations
include:

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Feast of the
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on August 15 by Canadian
religious group known as the Acadians; this festival is one of the most
important celebrations of the religious calendar.

December 26, when it was customary to give money boxes or servants and

Canada Day. Canada Day is the celebration of the birthday of the nation. The
first Canada Day (which was then called Dominion Day) was held on July 1,
1867.
Festival of Iceland. Also known as "Islendingadagurinn" Iceland Festival is a
carnival day with Viking theme that has been held in Canada since 1890.
Remembrance Day. It is held every November 11 and is a holiday created to
honor the veterans of Canada who lost their lives during the two world wars.
