WW1 Facts 1. 9 million combatants and 7 million civilians died as a

result of WW1.
2. WW1 transformed the U.S Military army into the largest
military power of the world.
3. Four empires collapsed during WW1: Austro Hungarian,
Ottoman, Russian, and German
4. During WW1, New Zealand raised an army of 100,000
men, about 10% of its population.
5. The use of chemical weapons such as mustard gas
resulted in more than 1.3 million casualties during WW1.
6. The Ottoman Empire slaughtered over 1.5 million
Armenians. This gave origin to the word Genocide
7. 80,000 British Army soldiers suffered from shell shock
over the course of the war.
8. U-Boats, also known as Submarines, were used in WW1.
During WW1 Germany built 360 U-Boat submarines, 178 of
which were lost
