Introduction to Common Nouns and Proper Nouns
1. Teacher picks a pupil. She says girl. Then she says the pupils name
Mina. Teacher gives a few more examples
Eg. class 3 Amanah,

2. Teacher shows pictures that are side by side.


Eg. Picture of car next to picture of a Ford car
Picture of girl next to picture of a girl named Beth

Poison Ball
1. Teacher tells pupils they are going to play a game called Poison Ball.
Teacher demonstrates how the game is played by modeling using
some of the students.
Eg.

This is a ball. (use a small soft ball.).


I will throw the ball and say girl

Catch the ball and say a name of a girl. Eg. Mina. If I say
milk, you say the name. Eg. Dutch Lady

Next throw the ball to a friend and say either girl, boy, car,
restaurant, cookie, milk, class, teacher etc (Teacher can put
these words on the board to help the children)

2. Teacher starts the activity by throwing the ball. Repeat the steps.

Person, Place or Thing?

1. Teacher divides pupils into groups of five.


2. Teacher puts the words on the white board.
3. Teacher writes person, place, or thing in three columns on the
board.
4. Teacher asks one pupil to pick a word from the words on the board and
write it in the correct column.
a. Pick a word.
b. Is it a person, place or thing? (Pupil responds)
c. Write it on the board in the correct place.
5. Teacher then instructs that pupil to call another pupil to the front to write
another word.
a. Call a friend.
6. Steps are repeated until all the words have been written in the columns.
Teacher monitors and guides.
7. Teacher distributes task sheet. Pupils complete the task sheet.
a. Write the words in the correct column in the table.
