INSTRUMENT:
OVEN
Blender
FTIR
TGA
AAS
Water bath shaker
Procedure:
PREPARATION OF ADSORBENT:
1. Soursop leaves will be washed using tap water and then rinse with distilled
water.
2. Soursop leaves will be cut into small pieces and place in the oven for
overnight at 80C.
3. The soursop leaves will be grinded using blender to obtain leaf powder.
4. The powder will be sieved using 100 300 m analytical sieves and washed twice
Characterization:
FTIR:
1. The sample will be grind and the KBr will be added into a mortar to form fine
powder.
2. Take two stainless steel disks out of the desiccator. Place a piece of the precut
cardboard (in the tin can next to the oven) on top of one disk and fill the
cutout hole with the finely ground mixture. Put the second stainless steel disk
on top and transfer the sandwich onto the pistil in the hydraulic press. Leave
for a few seconds and with the small lever on the left side, release the
pressure (hold until the sample and pistil are all the way down).
3. Remove the disks and pull apart. Remove the film, which should be
homogenous and transparent in appearance. Insert into the IR sample holder
and attach with scotch tape. Run the spectrum.
4. After use, the mortar and pistil should be cleaned with acetone and double
distilled water, and be put back on top of the oven for drying.
TGA:
1. 5 mg of sample will be placed and the temperature will be conducting for
10C/min.
2. The sample will be heating and cooling at the same time.
3. Result will be obtain around 2 hours.
1. A series of 0.01M NaCl with different pH will be prepared. (pH 2,4,6,8,10 ,12)
2. The pH will be adjusted by adding 0.1 M of NaOH and HCl to obtain required pH.
3. 50 mL of each solution will be transferred into Erlenmeyer flask.
4. 0.1 g of soursop leaves powder will be added into each flask and will be shaked using
water bath shaker for 24 hours.
5. The suspension in each flask will be filtered
6. pH of the solution will be measured.
Adsorbate preparation
1. To prepare stock solution, 1.619 g of 99% lead nitrate will be dissolved in 1L volumetric
flask and distilled water will be added up until the calibration mark.
2. The desired concentration of lead will be prepared using dilution method.
Effect of pH
1.
2.
3.
4.
The pH meter will be calibrated first with buffer 4, buffer 10 and buffer 7.
The probe will be deep in the buffer 4 solution, then buffer 10 and lastly in the buffer 7.
0.02 g of leaf powder will be added in the 50 mL of metal ion solution.
The pH of the solution will be adjusted using 0.1M NaOH and 0.1M HCl to adjusted the
pH of the solution (pH1, pH2, pH3, pH4, pH5, pH6 and pH7).
5. Solution will be stirrer using magnetic stirrer for an hour.
6. Solution will be centrifudge and the supernatant solution will be obtained and analyse.
Effect of dosage
1.
