ABSTRACT: Tisa is a large international European river, which represents the largest tributary of the Danube, according to the area of its basin and length. Trough Serbia, and its
province Vojvodina, where it reaches the Danube, this river runs across 164 km, which is
17% of its total length. Generally the Tisa represents a very reliable waterway on the Serbian sector, especially as a result of extensive regulation works conducted since the mid
19th century. Despite favorable conditions for navigation, the Tisa is not sufficiently used

for this function. In this paper, the authors analyse the navigation conditions on the Serbian sector of Tisa and consider the insufficient use of its navigational potential. In the
end they propose some of the solutions which could contribute to the substantial affirmation of Tisa as one of the main waterways in Serbia, which gives this paper and a pragmatic character.
