II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK: Incumbent applies knowledge of a vast number of building codes and
regulations and standard practices of the construction trade, using independent judgment to
determine applicable legal standards and ensure program compliance in particular situations.
III. RESPONSIBILITY: Incumbent is responsible for assisting in coordinating department operations
and ensuring compliance with well-defined federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, and
receives general assignments and instructions from the Building Commissioner or others as
assigned. Work is reviewed for compliance with established requirements for the department.
IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Incumbent maintains frequent contact with department
superiors and co-workers, contractors, other organizational units, and members of the general public
for purposes of coordinating assignments, supervising personnel, receiving complaints, and
regulating and enforcing state and local building regulations and ordinances.
Reports directly to the Building Commissioner.
V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Incumbent performs a significant amount of
work in the field in various weather conditions. Physical effort is exerted to inspect various structures,
involving walking, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, and maneuvering in cramped spaces. The
incumbent is exposed to hazardous materials and other hazards associated with the construction
trade. Must have full use of dexterities to maintain position.
