SUBJECTS & PREDICATES

Every sentence has a complete subject and complete


predicate. The complete subject also contains a simple
subject, and the complete predicate also contains a simple
predicate.

Complete subject: Tells whom or what the sentence is


about.
For example:
The big house is on the corner.
The red car is very fast.
The angry teacher shouted loudly at the class.

Simple subject: The main noun or pronoun in the


complete subject.
For example:
The big house is on the corner.
The red car is very fast.

The angry teacher shouted loudly at the class.

Complete predicate: Tells what the subject is or does.


For example:
The house is white.
The red car raced down the street.
The great teacher likes students.

Simple predicate: The complete verb within the complete


predicate. The simple predicate may be one or more
words.

For example:
The house is white.
The red car raced down the street.
The great teacher likes students.
